The Detroit Lions’ fans are likely to be disappointed to learn that another one of their players required surgery this offseason, given the negative outcome of the 2024 season.
Aidan Hutchinson is still in the process of recuperating from the surgical repair of his limb that occurred during the season.
In the interim, the team anticipates that Alim McNeill will not be prepared for the season’s commencement following the necessity of surgery for an ACL rupture.
Fortunately, the most recent information is not nearly as severe as either of their injuries. However, it appears that the Lions did have another prominent player undergo surgery this offseason.
Eric Woodyard of ESPN reported that wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown disclosed that he underwent knee surgery during the offseason during an interview with the media during the NFL’s organized team activities. He also stated that he anticipates being prepared for training camp.
There were no indications of any issue with St. Brown’s knee during the 2024 season.
This past season, he recorded 115 receptions, 1263 yards, and six touchdowns. In the team’s most recent playoff loss to the Commanders, St. Brown also recorded eight catches for 137 yards.
In order to maintain their status as one of the NFL’s most exceptional teams, the Lions will require St. Brown to perform at his highest level throughout the 2025 season.
The interior of their offensive line is undergoing significant changes, which may necessitate that Jared Goff accelerate the delivery of the ball next season.
This would likely result in an increase in the number of targets for St. Brown, who is most effective on shorter routes, with a career average depth of target of only 7.2 yards.
