After the Detroit Lions were defeated by the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship, a classmate of the daughter of Detroit head coach Dan Campbell publicly disclosed the coach’s address on Snapchat.
As a result, Campbell and his family unexpectedly listed their five-bedroom, seven-bathroom residence in the Detroit suburb of Bloomfield Hills for sale at $4.5 million, citing security concerns.
“The home is beautiful, and there is ample space on two acres.” Campbell acknowledged to Crain’s Detroit earlier this month, “It’s simply that people discovered our residences when we were defeated.”
The Detroit News reported that an angry student shared a post after the loss, which revealed the Campbell’s address and included the caption, “Dumb f*** trying to for it.”
Campbell’s failure to attempt a fourth-down field goal twice resulted in the Lions squandering a 17-point halftime lead, as those six points were ultimately missed.
According to reports, Campbell’s daughter was notably frightened by this post, which prompted the Lions and NFL security personnel to intervene.
According to Bloomfield Township Police, individuals arrived at the family residence after 11:00 p.m. that evening, which “astounded the daughter, who departed for the evening.”
In late January, Lyle Dungy, who is a member of the NFL’s security staff, reportedly called the Bloomfield police to report that a classmate of Campbell’s daughter had posted the family address on snapchat.
The Detroit News reports that the individual in question is a year behind Campbell’s daughter at a “exclusive private school.”
The police then contacted a school security officer to discuss the post and subsequently spoke with the student’s mother, Leslie.
According to reports, the mother issued an apology to Campbell’s wife, Holly, and clarified that her son did not intend to cause harm to the family.
“Leslie informed the police that she was cognizant of the situation and that Mrs. Campbell had already contacted her and left her a message regarding the classmate’s post,” according to the Detroit News.
Leslie stated that her son “re-posted” the post, which was only up for three minutes. He had 30 views on the post, believed it to be a false address, and promptly removed it after further consideration.
The report also stated that “Leslie informed me that the Campbell’s address is publicly available online and that her son did not contribute to anyone showing up.”
The student who posted the snap stated that he was watching the loss with a pair of friends when he saw a Snapchat post requesting that individuals “egg Dan Campbell’s house” and provided the address. He spoke with investigators about the incident.
According to the police report, “(The classmate) found humor in the post… and claimed that he copied the address and posted his own story, in which he captured a photograph of the floor and utilized the address he had previously seen.”
The student and his companions claim that they drove to Bloomfield Hills after feeling “distraught” from the defeat. Additionally, he informed the authorities that the Campbells’ residence may have been passed by. According to investigators, the residence’s location rendered it impossible to pass.
The Campbells were informed by one investigator that the circumstances did not warrant the filing of criminal charges.
“Holly’s sole apprehension is that their address is now public knowledge, and she is concerned that individuals will be able to exploit it next season when her husband is away,” the investigator stated, as per the report.
The students drove to the Campbell’s residence, parked on the street, and began shouting at the house, according to the security supervisor of the private school (via the police report).
The investigator stated in the report that “(The classmate) stated that they were yelling not nice things toward the house before they drove off.”
The Campbells experienced numerous doxxing incidents during a month, as evidenced by the four police reports that were filed regarding their residence from December 31, 2023, to the days following the 49ers’ loss on January 28, 2019, as reported by the Detroit News.
Phone calls and intrusive visitors were reportedly involved in these other situations, with a “extra patrol” being called in for New Year’s Eve.
According to reports, Elton Moore, the security director of the Lions, contacted the Bloomfield Township Police to inform them that Campbell’s address had been posted and to proceed to the residence. Campbell’s daughter was present with her beau; however, she ultimately departed the residence as a result of the attention.
According to the Detroit News, an officer was present outside the residence until 1:30 a.m. the following morning, but he observed “nothing suspicious.”
According to the Detroit News, an investigator stated that “people and vehicles did appear outside their residence, but they did not necessarily enter the property.” ‘ The partner exited his vehicle and flashed his headlights at any individuals who approached, causing them to disengage and depart.
The Campbells were concerned about their daughter’s safety and advised her to depart the residence with her beau for the evening. I reassured the Campbells that we would dispatch a patrol unit to the residence and provide additional security for the evening.
The Campbells have since relocated, and the new residence has not been mentioned in any police inquiries.

Campbell continues to hold Detroit’s fanbase in high regard, despite these alarming incidents.
“Our fans are dear to me,” Campbell declared. The fans are amazing. There is no other team or location in this city that I would prefer to coach for. It is exceedingly uncommon to be able to coach, perform, and instruct our players in an environment of this nature. This is a unique location, and you should savor it, as it is not present in every location.
