Detroit Lions Update: TE Shane Zylstra heads to injured reserve, while the team bolsters the 53-man roster with new offensive line depth.

There were a lot of changes to the Detroit Lions’ roster after their win over the Chicago Bears on Tuesday. Tight end Shane Zylstra was put on injured reserve.

It was in the first quarter of the Lions’ 52-21 win that Zylstra hurt his ankle while blocking on a punt return. He was taken off the field and carted to the locker room. At halfway, he was ruled out for the rest of the game.

Trystan Colon, an offensive lineman, was signed by the Lions from their practice squad to fill a spot on their 53-man roster. They also cut defender Monty Rice from the practice squad and added receiver Malik Cunningham and tight end Ross Dwelley.

There were seven starts for Colon in 2016 for the Arizona Cardinals. He can play either centre or guard. He is the fourth backup lineman for the Lions, after Kayode Awosika, Gio Manu, and Kingsley Eguakun. Awosika filled in as the team’s sixth linebacker against the Bears, and Manu and Eguakun played their first offensive snaps on the Lions’ last series.

They only have two tight ends on their 53-man squad, and their names are Sam LaPorta and Brock Wright. As of now, Dwelley is on the practice squad with tight end Zach Horton.

As the Lions’ third tight end, Zylstra played six snaps in their first two games.
