DONE DEAL AND CONFIRMED: New Orleans Saints has officially announce 4-year deal with rookie draft pick
Another member of the New Orleans Saints’ nine-man 2025 NFL draft class has executed his rookie contract. The four-year rookie contract of defensive lineman Vernon Broughton, who was selected in the third round of this year’s draft at No. 71, was inked on Tuesday. He has become a legitimate member of the Saints after playing college football for the Texas Longhorns.
The majority of his 56-game Texas tenure, Broughton, 23, was a 2i and 3-technique defensive tackle who lined up over the guard’s inner or outside shoulder. However, the Saints were already introducing him to new responsibilities during their rookie minicamp. He was observed practicing as a 5-tech defensive end from the outer shoulder of the offensive tackle.
Brandon Staley, the Saints’ new defensive coordinator, is implementing a 3-4 base. However, he is renowned for employing versatile fronts that can maneuver players such as Broughton throughout the line of scrimmage.
Just one player remains unsigned from the Saints’ rookie class: Tyler Shough. This is due to the fact that Broughton signed on Tuesday and his colleague third-rounder Jonas Sanker inked his own deal on Monday. It is probable that the second-round quarterback will require more time during negotiations than the other players; however, this has become the norm.
These second-round contracts have turned into a battleground where teams and agents are negotiating over offset language, guaranteed money, and other minor details. In comparison to other front offices in the league, the Saints are known for their expedited approach to concluding these agreements; however, it is anticipated that they will be finalized prior to the commencement of training camp in late July. Stay tuned.
