Done deal: Birmingham City secure second January signing

Birmingham City have strengthened their midfield by completing the signing of Colombian youngster Jhon Solis from La Liga side Girona.

The 21-year-old has joined the Blues on loan until the end of the season, with the agreement understood to include either an option or an obligation to make the move permanent. Solis began his career at Atletico Nacional in Medellín before moving to Girona at the close of the 2023 summer transfer window.

Solis is expected to fill the gap left by Marc Leonard, after the decision was taken for the Scotland international to move on during the January window.

However, Birmingham boss Chris Davies may need to ease the midfielder into action. Solis has not featured for around a month and has not started a match since Girona’s Copa del Rey defeat to third-tier Ourense on December 3.

During his two-and-a-half years in Spain, Solis made 49 La Liga appearances, largely from the bench under head coach Michel, and scored his only senior goal against Alaves last season.

He also gained valuable experience in the Champions League during Girona’s 2024/25 campaign, featuring against Paris Saint-Germain as well as Premier League sides Liverpool and Arsenal.
