Barcelona has announced that Hansi Flick will take over as the club’s new head coach.
At the Nou Camp, the former manager of Bayern Munich and Germany has signed a contract that will last for two years.
Flick takes over for Xavi, who was fired a month after Barcelona convinced him to continue in his role as manager. Xavi had expected to leave at the conclusion of this season, but Barcelona was able to convince him to stay on. With the help of the 44-year-old, the Catalans were able to advance to the quarterfinals of the Champions League, where they were ultimately defeated by Paris Saint-Germain.
“FC Barcelona and Hansi Flick have reached an agreement for the German to become men’s first-team football coach until 30 June 2026,” according to a statement from the club.
Flick was fired by Germany in September after the team suffered a friendly loss to Japan by a score of 4-1. This came on the heels of Germany’s elimination from the group stage of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
During his two-year tenure with Bayern, he was an assistant coach to Joachim Low during his country’s victory at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. After that, he went on to win back-to-back Bundesliga titles and the Champions League in 2020.

In a video that was uploaded to X by Barcelona, Flick was heard saying, “First of all, I would like to say thank you to everyone (associated with the event).” In addition to being a dream come true, signing my contract here in Barcelona, where I will be working for such a magnificent club, is a great honor for me, and I am excited to get started.
“Nothing can be said about the club. The hours that I spend in Barcelona are incredible because everyone in the club loves this club and strives to provide their best effort in order to ensure that they are successful.
Hansi Flick, a former manager of Bayern Munich and Germany, has been named as the new manager of Barcelona on a two-year contract. La Liga club Xavi was fired barely one month after the club managed to convince him to continue in his post. The Spaniard had indicated in January that he wanted to quit the club at the end of the season, but he turned back on his decision.
“The philosophy that they have is very similar to mine; I really enjoy very attacking football and having possession of the ball. These are the things that I enjoy.”
When I was with Bayern Munich, I was able to win a few titles, and I have a strong desire to win more titles. I would like to continue down this path with Barcelona, and I believe that we are capable of accomplishing a great deal together.
His predecessor, who was appointed to manage the club in November 2021 and won 25 major trophies as a player, is succeeded by the 59-year-old individual who is now in charge of the club.
In the wake of Ronald Koeman’s dismissal from his position as manager of the squad, Xavi led the team from ninth place in LaLiga to the position of runners-up.
