Dutch-Spanish football manager Jordi Cruyff explains the reason why Barcelona signed the 35-year-old striker Robert Lewandowski
It has been difficult to provide an explanation for a number of the signings that FC Barcelona has made over its history. The club is looking for a certain kind of athletic profile, but not every new member appears to fit the bill. This is something that the club is always looking for, but it doesn’t always work out. Having said that, considering how enormous a club Barcelona is, it is not necessary for everything to be related to sports.
The club does, on occasion, take into account additional elements, both internal and external to the organization. There are instances when it is for the sake of maintaining relationships with other clubs or agencies, and there are other times when it is for the purpose of marketing a signing that does not include any other external considerations.
In the case of Robert Lewandowski, for example, it appears that the argument was one that was founded on the sacrifices that the Polish striker was willing to make at the time. In light of the fact that he was such a great talent, and the fact that he was even prepared to finish his contract with Bayern Munich on a poor note at the time, his signing was a major one for Barcelona.
Fabrizio Romano, who is known for his reliability, has revealed that even Jordi Cruyff has provided some insight into the recent signing of Lewandowski. Reshad Rahman has provided them with this information. The son of the late Dutch icon Johan Cruyff, who had previously been a member of Joan Laporta’s trusted squad at Barcelona, made the following statement regarding the arrival of Bayern’s ace striker at the time:
“The most important reason why Lewandowski joined was because it was his dream, and he had that motivation to come,” the author writes. You need to sign him when you know that he is willing to accomplish a lot of things to come, even financially, in order to make his dream come true.
Lewandowski’s original arrival ended up being highly fruitful for Barcelona as well, which is a testament to her success. At the end of his first season, he was able to assist the team in winning both La Liga and the Spanish Supercup. In addition, he was awarded the Pichichi honor, which is given to the player who scores the most goals in the league.
However, since then, the most recent season has not been nearly as successful for either the Polish striker or for Barcelona. On top of that, he is going to end up asking an even more substantial pay for the following season, which is something that has sparked disagreements within the club as well.
Although the initial motivations behind the recruitment of Lewandowski are now evident, the signing of Lewandowski will undoubtedly continue to be a topic of significant debate within Barcelona.
