Eddie Howe discusses the likelihood of Alexander Isak’s return to fitness for Newcastle’s Carabao Cup final against Liverpool.
Liverpool’s Premier League title aspirations were further bolstered by their 2-0 victory over Newcastle on Wednesday. In just over two weeks, the Reds endured five challenging fixtures, culminating in their final match against the Magpies.
The Premier League trophy is expected to be lifted by Liverpool in May, as they have managed to remain unblemished during that period. On Wednesday, the news that Alexander Isak, the star striker of Newcastle, had been unable to make the matchday squad at Anfield provided some relief. Liverpool has been interested in Isak, who has had another exceptional season with the Toon.
There is no doubt that the Reds’ prospects of victory were enhanced by his absence. And with the Carabao Cup final between these two teams imminent, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe provided a post-match update regarding the likelihood of Isak’s availability for Wembley. Numerous supporters regard Isak as the optimal solution to Liverpool’s No.9 dilemma. The Sweden international has been highly productive for Newcastle over the past two years and would undoubtedly improve the Liverpool squad.
