Eddie Howe expresses his sentiments regarding the recent Newcastle United transfer claim, which involves the pursuit of an England star for £40 million.

According to reports, Manchester City is interested in Newcastle right-back Tino Livramento as a potential replacement for

Kyle Walker, who recently joined AC Milan on loan. Walker’s contract with Manchester City expires in the summer, and Pep Guardiola intends to resolve the right-back position in his squad. Since joining Newcastle from Southampton in 2023 in a transaction valued at up to £40 million,

has made significant progress. The 22-year-old has established himself as a regular in Eddie Howe’s England senior squad this season, following his use as a reserve to Kieran Trippier last season. City are reportedly monitoring Livramento as a potential long-term replacement for Walker, as reported by The Telegraph. Andrea Cambiaso, Juventus’ full-back, has also been mentioned.

Howe promptly expressed his dissatisfaction with the recent allegations that linked Livramento with a departure from Newcastle. “Yes, I believe it is self-evident that we wish to preserve Livramento,” Howe stated. “We are always discussing players who are rumoured to be leaving, and I believe that it is frustrating for us.”

After three consecutive transfer windows without any significant first team additions, Newcastle will seek to bolster its squad this summer. However, the media has frequently associated players at the club with potential departures.

Alexander Isak, Sandro Tonali, Anthony Gordon, Bruno Guimaraes, and presently Livramento have all been the subject of reported interest from other sources. He was previously at Chelsea, but he did not make a first-team appearance before being acquired by Southampton in 2021.

He subsequently appeared in 34 matches for The Saints before departing following his recovery from a severe ACL injury and subsequent relegation in 2023. Livramento has made his international and Champions League debuts since his arrival at Newcastle. The Newcastle defender expressed his conviction that he is in “the best place” earlier this season.

“The objective was consistently to participate in the Premier League at the earliest opportunity,” he stated. “I departed Chelsea and immediately acquired that experience at Southampton.” I experienced some challenging circumstances due to injuries; however, the supporters and the club were exceptionally supportive.

“I am currently in a location that I adore—the supporters, the manager, and the atmosphere—and I feel as though I am in a wonderful environment at Newcastle.” I am in the most advantageous position to further my development as a football player.
