Eddie Howe is adamant that Newcastle’s dearth of goals will not compel him to make hasty judgments in the January transfer market. On Saturday, the

Magpies suffered their first Premier League defeat at St James’ Park since May of last year, as they were unable to score in a game against Brighton. Despite numerous opportunities, the Magpies were unable to capitalize. Newcastle has scored only eight goals in as many league matches this season. Howe expended a significant portion of the summer in an ultimately unsuccessful pursuit of Crystal Palace’s England defender Marc Guehi. Additionally, his endeavors to enhance the creativity of his squad were unsuccessful. The absence of a cutting edge has been exacerbated by the unwellness of Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon, as well as the rehabilitation of Callum Wilson from injury. Nevertheless, when asked whether attacking reinforcements will be a priority in January, the head coach responded, “I believe we must adopt a long-term strategic perspective that considers positional needs, contract lengths, and ages.”

“There will be no hasty decisions made in response to a few games in which we have failed to score.” Certainly, we would consider it if the trajectory were to persist in the long term. “However, we were seeking to enhance our attacking positions in the creative areas, so I do not believe that it was a one-dimensional transfer strategy.” Naturally, we were unsuccessful in those capacities. Newcastle’s bluntness proved fatal over the weekend, as they were unable to secure a victory despite having generated an abundance of opportunities. Isak and Gordon were both profligate throughout the first 35 minutes, during which they were utterly dominant. Isak squandered an opportunity that he would have taken without a second invitation last season, and Gordon was aided by some excellent goalkeeping from Bart Verbruggen. In contrast, Danny Welbeck, a 33-year-old player who was later carried off with a back injury but was able to fly home with the rest of the Seagulls squad, scored with Brighton’s first attempt. Welbeck capitalized on the inept defending of Fabian Schar and Tino Livramento to score at St James’ for the first time in his career.
