EFL Championship clubs race to sign the talented Sheffield United star Jairo Riedewald after recent announcement

Sheffield United midfielder Jairo Riedewald has attracted interest from several Championship and European clubs, sources have told Football Insider.

The 29-year-old only signed a short-term deal when he arrived at Bramall Lane on a free transfer in October, with his contract set to expire in mid-January. However, he has quickly become an important figure for the Blades, winning five of his first eight matches and helping lift the team’s performances under Chris Wilder.

Sheffield United want to extend Riedewald’s stay

Wilder is eager to keep Riedewald beyond his initial deal following the strong impact he has made. The Dutchman has impressed in wins such as the 3–0 derby victory over Sheffield Wednesday and the 3–2 triumph against Leicester City, performances that have boosted his reputation among fans and scouts alike.

Clubs from both the Championship and mainland Europe have been monitoring his situation, especially given his significant experience, including 80 Premier League appearances during his time at Crystal Palace. His leadership qualities and influence behind the scenes have also been praised, with young Palace players previously speaking highly of his professionalism and guidance.

Louie Barry expected to leave Bramall Lane

While Riedewald has thrived, Aston Villa loanee Louie Barry has struggled to make an impact. The 22-year-old has started only six of a possible 18 games and has been absent from the last six matchday squads, raising doubts about his future at the club.

Barry has now returned to train with Aston Villa, who are preparing to recall him in January after an underwhelming loan spell. This follows a difficult stint at Hull City last season, after being recalled from Stockport County.

Meanwhile, Riedewald continued to impress at the weekend, scoring in the 3–2 win over Leicester City—further attracting interest from clubs tracking his position ahead of the January window.
