Edward Still is set to arrive in England today to finalize his move to Watford, with the 35-year-old Belgian expected to take over as the Hornets’ new manager.
Still resigned from Anderlecht on Monday, opening the door for his first role in English football. He will become Watford’s third manager this season, following the departures of Paulo Pezzolano after 10 games and Javi Gracia in early February.
Despite the appointment, Still’s managerial record raises eyebrows. Across his stints at Kortrijk, Eupen, and a brief interim spell at Anderlecht, he has won just 24 of 80 matches.
His most recent permanent role ended in September 2023 at Kortrijk, where he failed to secure a single league victory in eight games.
Still has long been known as a football obsessive. He grew up attending Standard Liège matches with his brothers and filling notebooks with tactical notes from the age of 17.
His younger brother, Will Still, who had a tough spell at Southampton this season, praises Edward’s discipline and structure.
Watford’s recent form hasn’t helped: the club is winless in six matches, including a 1-0 defeat at Southampton on Saturday.
Former Bournemouth defender Charlie Daniels, alongside Dan Gosling and Adrian Mariappa, has been overseeing first-team affairs in the interim.
