English football coach reveals who should start England lineup between Trent Alexander-Arnold and Kyle Walker in their upcoming match at Euro 2024

Robbie Fowler has provided his opinion on the current scenario at right back for England.

There appears to be a persistent dilemma over the decision of whether Gareth Southgate ought to select Kyle Walker or Trent Alexander-Arnold to fill the post at the European Championship that is now taking place.

Walker has been given the responsibility of doing the job by Southgate, and the veteran has not failed to meet Southgate’s expectations in each of his three starts at Euro 2024.

However, it appears that the manager of the Three Lions has come to the conclusion that England is experiencing a severe lack of creative spark in their team. This realization may have prompted him to move the captain of Manchester City to left back in order to bring Alexander-Arnold off the bench to play right back in his team’s most recent match, which ended in a scoreless draw against Slovenia.

During England’s match against Slovakia, Robbie Fowler brings Kyle Walker and Trent Alexander-Arnold to a conclusion.

In the Round of 16 of the Euro 2024 tournament, England is scheduled to play Slovakia on Sunday night. It will be intriguing to see which right-back Southgate chooses to start for England in this match.

The player who is believed to be worth fifty million pounds is one who has repeatedly demonstrated that he is well suited for tournament football, whether it is for Manchester City or England during the course of his career.

Particularly in contrast to Alexander-Arnold, whose presence at right-back could create a sense of fragility to the English backline due to the fact that he has difficulties when going toe-to-toe with direct wingers.

It is safe to conclude that Gareth Southgate is forced to make a significant choice at this critical juncture.

Robbie Fowler believes that the England manager should select Alexander-Arnold rather than Walker as his right-back of choice because Alexander-Arnold is a better creator than Walker.

In the beginning, the Liverpool legend stated to The Sunday Mirror (page 77, 30 June 2024) that Trent Alexander-Arnold’s position in the central midfield position was unsuccessful. In addition, it would appear that the Liverpool full-back is being forced to pay an unfair price for the experiment that was unsuccessful.

When it comes to carrying out significant experiments and taking major risks, the biggest tournament is not the right moment to do either. There is a reason for the friendlies to be there.

Because Phil Foden and Bukayo Saka both instinctively come inside in order to go onto their strongest foot, England has been unable to use the flanks. This has prevented England from gaining access to the position.

In addition, Fowler stated, “If [Gareth] Southgate is going to continue with that formation, then he needs to get Alexander-Arnold in the team so that he can provide natural width and an attacking threat.”

On the defensive side, Trent is not quite as good as Kyle Walker can be. On the other hand, the quality of his crosses and passes alone is sufficient to warrant a spot on his team.

The dropping of Kyle Walker by Gareth Southgate is highly improbable.
Although it is possible that Gareth Southgate would agree with Robbie Fowler and start Alexander-Arnold at right back, it is quite improbable that Walker will completely lose his position in England’s defensive line-up.

It is possible that Southgate may recall his experiment in which he used the 34-year-old player as a substitute left defender for the match on Sunday.

However, it is quite improbable that the manager who has relied on the six-time Premier League champion, who is still considered to be one of the best defensive full-backs in the world and a thoroughbred winner, would decide to release him from his position.

Gareth Southgate has demonstrated that there is a core group of players on whom he will always rely. These players include Harry Kane, John Stones, Declan Rice, Jordan Pickford, and Bukayo Saka, who was formerly a right-back for Tottenham Hotspur. Southgate has proved that he will always rely on these players.
