English football pundit Alan Shearer’s delivers Marc Guehi transfer verdict ahead of transfer deadline
With a big move, Shearer thinks NUFC can send a message to their rivals.
Alan Shearer thinks that if Newcastle United completes a deal to bring Marc Guehi to St. James’ Park, they will send a clear message to the rest of the Premier League. Since putting in what is thought to be a £60m offer a few days ago, the Magpies have already had four transfer offers turned down.
The club has made it a priority to get a deal done for the Crystal Palace back. His stock has gone up since he was one of England’s best players at the European Championships this summer, but Palace has been tough on price so far.
Because of the message a signing of that price and quality would send to the rest of the league, Shearer hopes Newcastle can still get two more players before the transfer window closes. He also says that winning any kind of trophy must be the goal after that, not just finishing in the top four.
At Betfair, Shearer said, “The main goal would be to win a trophy.” It doesn’t matter which one; a prize is better than coming in first through fourth. Newcastle needs to stay healthy because injuries cost them a lot last season. Instead, they need to stay healthy if they want to do well.
“The summer has been hard for Newcastle because Amanda Staveley left and there was talk about Eddie Howe and England.” We hope that things will calm down soon so that we can make a few more signings.
“If Newcastle spends £55 million to £60 million on a central defender, it will make a big statement.” If they can get Guehi, it would be a big deal because he was one of England’s best players at the Euros.
