Jamie Carragher has condemned Everton for a social media post that was published subsequent to their goalless draw with Newcastle United on Saturday evening.
Following Jordan Pickford’s save of Anthony Gordon’s penalty in the first half, the Toffees secured a point against Eddie Howe’s team on Saturday night. Eddie Howe’s team had an abundance of possession at Goodison Park; however, they were unsuccessful in scoring a goal on a frustrating evening.

Gordon, who left Everton to join Newcastle United in January 2023, returned to Goodison Park for the third time. He played in the forward position in the absence of Alexander Isak and, similar to the previous weekend, stepped up to attempt a penalty for his team. Gordon would ultimately be denied a goal against his former employers by his international colleague in the Everton goal.

Not surprisingly, the Everton supporters at Goodison Park, as well as Pickford and his companions, enthusiastically celebrated Gordon’s missed kick. Everton’s official account promptly shared a video of the penalty, which was met with the family fortunes buzzer ringing just as Pickford made the save. Celebrations soon ensued on social media.

Gordon, on the other hand, utilized social media to acknowledge his team’s failure to secure all three points following the match. “He wrote, ‘A great performance, just couldn’t put them away, and that’s on me.'” It is never a simple task to be absent, but I will never hesitate to take a stand for my team. I am grateful to all who traveled; until we meet again.

The 23-year-old was defended by a significant number of fans in response to that post, and his teammates and supporters expressed their support in the comments. Aston Villa midfielder Amadou Onana even sent Gordon a love heart on Instagram. In pursuit of Champions League football, the duo played together at Everton before departing the club.
