Martin Keown, an Arsenal great, says that Unai Emery’s desperation is to blame for the team’s failure to win the Premier League title this season.

Martin Keown said that Unai Emery was “desperate” to beat his old team, Arsenal, which is why Arsenal failed to win the Premier League title this season.

On the last day of the season, Manchester City beat West Ham 3-1 to win the Premier League title, two points ahead of Arsenal. This would have been Arsenal’s first title since 2004.

Pep Guardiola said that his team’s hopes were raised by Arsenal’s 2-0 loss at home to Aston Villa in April, even though Mikel Arteta’s team came close to beating City. Keown thinks that Arsenal’s failure to win the league was largely due to these losses to Villa, both at home and away.

“They [City] have that luxury, Arsenal are a developing club,” Keown said on talkSPORT. You fight Man City. Arsenal can be winners if they can draw with Villa and don’t lose to them.

“They knew that if they lost, Arsenal would be wiped out and City would win again, so they went there to get those points.” I believe Unai Emery was the reason Arsenal did not win the league; he took six points away from them.

Keown also said, “I’m going to say this because I really believe it: he’s like the swan on the outside—very calm, plays with respect against his old team—but below the surface, he’s desperate; those little feet are going crazy to beat Arsenal, and he did it.” Arsenal was about to win the league, but he stopped them.

When Keown thought about Villa’s effect, he said, “It’s ironic.” I played for two great teams, but Villa has been the best. In the middle of the season, they were in the top four, even though they gave up five goals at the beginning and end of the season.

“It was a very big deal who won the Premier League this year.” The standard that City set, though, is high, and I think Arsenal is rising very quickly.

Keown also talked about how determined City’s players were, praising Rodri in particular: “That’s Rodri, because he wants to send a message, ‘We’re the best.'” They do it and get the medals. That just sets the stage for next year, though. If I were an Arsenal player right now, I would take a break, think about it, and use it as fuel. Then I would rise from the ashes and keep going until we won.
