English former football player Chris Sutton delivers some top Celtic F.C. changes vs. Falkirk for the Sunday Scottish League Cup
On Sunday, Celtic plays Falkirk in the quarterfinals of the Scottish League Cup. They want to keep their perfect start to the 2024–25 season going.
This season, Brendan Rodgers’ Bhoys have won seven out of seven games in all tournaments. Their most recent win was a rout of Slovan Bratislava in the Champions League.
Fans are having a great time right now, and if the team makes it to the Hampden semi-final, the good vibes around the club will only get stronger.
Falkirk have also been very aloof. They haven’t lost in 43 league games and will be very confident when they go to Glasgow to play this game with a big away crowd.
Still, it looks like a good chance for Rodgers to change things up for the team after making the same choices for a couple of months.
Since he said that his team has some “niggles” that need to be worked out on Friday, we’ll probably see some changes. But what will they be?
Augston Trusty and Alex Valle could start for Celtic for the first time against Falkirk.
Chris Sutton, who used to play striker, wants at least four goals and wants the club’s new players to get reps.
This past weekend, he told the Daily Record, “I expect Rodgers to change things up tomorrow against Falkirk.” He can’t think too little of a team that is doing well in the Championship and already beat Hearts in the Premier Sports Cup.
“But you would think this is a chance for Adam Idah, Paulo Bernardo, Alex Valle, and Auston Trusty to play for a while.” There is already talk about “strength in depth,” which means that the progress doesn’t stop when names are changed on the team sheet.
“The Celtic team will be put to the test in the next few weeks.” The other night, they had the A team play, but Rodgers will have to change things up when someone gets hurt or is banned.
“The players who are coming in need to show that they can fit in and do the same job.” The other night, Celtic ripped up the usual Champions League script. But they need to stick to it at home, even if the main players change.
Maybe Celtic players won’t be able to play in the Scottish League Cup match
Luke McCowan won’t play for the Bhoys because he has a cup match. Also, Alistair Johnston and Cameron Carter-Vickers, who didn’t train on Friday, are likely to be rested by Brendan Rodgers.
They also had problems during the most recent international break, so there’s no reason to put them at risk for this game when other players can step in.
This is also true for Greg Taylor, who has played a lot of football lately. Fans are excited to see what Valle has to give.
It should be interesting to hear who will be on the team, and as Sutton says, it should be a chance for those who aren’t starting to make a case for more regular playing time for Celtic.
