Everything that happened as Manchester United defender Matthijs de Ligt sustained bloody head injury during their Premier League match against Brentford
Following a collision with Kevin Schade at the conclusion of the first half of the match between Manchester United and Brentford on Saturday, Matthijs de Ligt sustained a bloodied cranium.
While the game was still tied at 0-0, the cranium of United defender De Ligt collided with the knee of Brentford winger Schade.
However, Brentford scored the opening goal on a Mikkel Damsgaard corner kick, as Ethan Pinnock headed it home after De Ligt was ordered off the field to receive treatment for his untidy wound.
Erik ten Hag, the manager of the Red Devils, was incensed by the fact that his team was compelled to defend the corner with only 10 players. He directed his rage toward the officials, which led to a yellow card.
Jonny Evans, the center back for the United team, was also issued a dissenting penalty.
Certainly, Pinnock’s goal was felt in the absence of De Ligt. However, it was the third occasion on which he required treatment, and the United medical team should have applied the appropriate dressing at the first indication of blood.
The decision was met with vociferous protests from De Ligt’s, but officials were unable to make any further modifications due to the protocols surrounding head injuries.
He was removed from the field to address his head injury, and according to protocol, he was required to remain on the touchline for 30 seconds.
United have conceded nine goals in eight games, but they emerged victorious on Saturday as a result of second-half goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund.
This was their first victory in six games, and it alleviated some of the strain on Ten Hag, who was struggling. The final score was 2-1.
