Ex-Ipswich Town forward set to join Championship rivals ahead of Portsmouth game as Sheffield United consider £15m swoop

Championship rivals active in January transfer window

With the January transfer window just over a week away, Championship clubs are already preparing for the busy period. Despite the festive season, teams are finalising their plans, with both incoming and outgoing deals expected.

Portsmouth are no exception, as captain John Mousinho has hinted at potential squad changes ahead of the New Year.

Sheffield United target Ipswich star

Sheffield United are reportedly planning a bold move for Ipswich Town winger Jack Clarke in January.

The Blades have endured a mixed start to the season, having narrowly missed out on Premier League promotion in last May’s play-off final at Wembley.

Although recent results have improved, Chris Wilder’s side sit just five points above Pompey in the table and seven clear of the relegation zone.

Clarke, a consistent presence for third-placed Ipswich this season, is said to be on Sheffield United’s radar as they look to strengthen ahead of a crucial second half of the campaign. The 25-year-old has scored seven goals and added two assists in league action so far, boosting his profile at Portman Road.

According to The Star, the Blades are considering a loan move for Clarke during the second half of the season.

The England youth international joined Ipswich from Sunderland in 2024 for £15m and has since contributed 10 goals and eight assists across all competitions.

Pompey will face Kieran McKenna’s side at Fratton Park on January 4, closing out their festive fixtures before the transfer window opens.
