Former Premier League referee Harry Kane’s Champions League match against Arsenal on Tuesday should have resulted in his dismissal.

Referee Keith Hackett, a former Premier League employee, believes Harry Kane was “fortunate” not to have been dismissed for Tuesday’s 2-2 Champions League quarterfinals draw with Bayern Munich after his soaring elbow collided with Gabriel in the second half.

Kane was issued a yellow card by referee Pol van Boekel in the 55th minute of the first leg at the Emirates for raising an elbow at a Brazilian defender of Arsenal. The foul occurred in front of Kane. The Bundesliga team held a 2-1 lead in North London at the time.

Despite Gabriel being on the ground, Van Boekel issued the 30-year-old captain of England a mere yellow card. Dennis Higler, the assistant referee, did not instruct Van Boekel to examine the action on the field via the VAR monitor. However, Hackett believes that was sufficient to instruct Kane to depart.

“Hurry Kane should feel very lucky.” “His swinging elbow to the face of Arsenal defender Gabriel in the 55th minute of Tuesday night’s exciting first leg of the Champions League quarterfinal was dangerous, reckless, and with too much force,” Hackett stated in his article in the Telegraph. Hackett served as a Premier League referee between 1992 and 1994.

“It was evident that Kane was in control of the situation because he glanced at Gabriel to determine the location of his opponent.” Kindly be aware that forfeiting focus on the object in favor of playing the man will result in dire consequences.

“When it comes to officiating, the elbow is a dangerous spot because it’s easy to do a lot of damage if you use it wrong.” In this instance, that was abundantly apparent; Kane employed his elbow as a weapon, and Gabriel was defenseless after witnessing him strike and glance back at him just prior to the collision.

“That was violent behavior, and I’m sure he would have been sent off in the Premier League if he did it there.” It is undoubtedly a red card.

Had Kane been dismissed for conceding a goal that Bayern equalized after Serge Gnabry cancelled out Bukayo Saka’s opener, he would have been unable to participate in the Allianz Arena’s rematch the following week.
