Severe weather conditions caused major disruption to the Scottish Premiership schedule on February 4, 2026, with heavy rain forcing the postponement of Aberdeen’s home clash against Celtic at Pittodrie.
A pitch inspection confirmed the surface was unplayable after persistent rainfall left parts of the field waterlogged, particularly near the Merkland end.
Aberdeen had alerted the SPFL in advance, and following a 4pm inspection, the referee ruled the pitch unsafe. Both clubs confirmed the postponement, with a new date to be announced. The delay denied Celtic the chance to reduce the gap to league leaders Hearts, while Rangers were handed an opportunity to gain ground if they could beat Kilmarnock.
The weather also claimed Dundee’s fixture against Motherwell after a failed inspection at Dens Park.
Across the country, additional postponements hit Highland League matches as yellow weather warnings covered large areas of Scotland.
Despite the chaos, several Premiership fixtures were still scheduled to go ahead, but the disruption has added further congestion to an already packed calendar.
