Wilfried Nancy is not currently facing pressure at Celtic despite failing to register a win since taking charge, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Hoops suffered a shock 3-1 defeat to St Mirren in Sunday’s Scottish League Cup final, extending Nancy’s losing run to three matches since his arrival at Parkhead. Although Celtic dominated possession and created more chances, they struggled to assert control, with Jonah Ayunga’s two second-half goals proving decisive.
Nancy, who is still searching for his first victory as Celtic manager, admitted his side look “fragile” but insisted improvements are coming as the team works toward clicking together.
Nancy Given Time at Celtic
Writing in his exclusive GIVEMESPORT newsletter, Romano played down suggestions that Nancy’s position is under threat. He stressed that the club remains patient, highlighting the need for the Frenchman to fully understand his squad and adjust to the demands of Scottish football after replacing Martin O’Neill earlier this month.
“No, at the moment no. He needs time to adapt, know the players and deliver,” Romano stated.
Celtic’s difficult run began with a 2-1 home defeat to league leaders Hearts, followed by a heavy 3-0 loss to Roma in the Europa League, before Sunday’s Hampden disappointment.
That contrasts sharply with O’Neill’s interim spell, during which Celtic won seven of eight matches and suffered just one defeat.
Nancy arrived from MLS side Columbus Crew on December 3, signing a two-and-a-half-year deal. His reputation was built in the United States, where he won the MLS Cup in 2023, lifted the Leagues Cup last season, and was named MLS Coach of the Year.
January Backing Expected
Despite the poor start, Celtic remain second in the Premiership, six points behind Hearts with two games in hand. The club is expected to back Nancy in the January transfer window as they aim to retain the league title.
As previously reported by, the Hoops are prepared to strengthen the squad if suitable options become available. Supporters had criticised the club’s summer business, with Benjamin Nygren the most notable signing.
The Swedish winger, who was an unused substitute in the cup final, has contributed seven goals and five assists in 26 appearances this season.
