As part of the discussions that linked Anthony Gordon with a move in the opposite direction last summer, Newcastle engaged in discussions with Liverpool regarding the potential acquisition of centre-back Jarell Quansah.
Newcastle faced a potential points deduction for noncompliance with the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules at the time of the player plus cash transfer proposal. Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh were sold to Nottingham Forest and Brighton, respectively, as Gordon remained at St James’ Park, allowing The Magpies to narrowly escape from a desperate situation.
Liverpool negotiate a £35 million agreement for Jarell Quansah. According to reports, Liverpool has reached an agreement with Bayer Leverkusen to acquire Quansah for a sum of up to £35 million.
The defender is presently participating in the Under-21s European Championships with England, but he is expected to conclude the tournament with a new club. Fabrizio Romano, a transfer expert, stated, “Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen, here we go!” The initial fee of £30 million has been agreed upon, with an additional £5 million in add-ons. The report indicates that Liverpool intends to submit a “substantial offer” to Palace in exchange for Guehi, despite the fact that no formal proposal has been submitted.
It is alleged that the sale of Quansah will facilitate Guehi’s arrival at Liverpool this summer. PublicityPalace reportedly declined a £55 million offer from Tottenham Hotspur for Guehi in January, following their rejection of a comparable offer from Newcastle in August 2024. Last summer, the Magpies identified Guehi as their primary transfer target and engaged in negotiations with Palace throughout August.
However, they were ultimately unsuccessful in securing a deal. Newcastle remains interested in Guehi, as Palace is under pressure to transfer the defender, who is out of contract next summer. However, their prospects of acquiring the 24-year-old are significantly diminished by the increase in competition from the Premier League champions.
