Fabrizio Romano drops new update on Wilfried Nancy as Celtic move closes in on the final stage

Celtic’s long-running chase for Wilfried Nancy is finally coming to a head.
And while the club waits to make the announcement official, the silence has been flooded with rumour after rumour.

Interim boss Martin O’Neill has done his part, winning four of his five matches — including an extra-time thriller against Rangers in the Premier Sports Cup semi-final. But now, Fabrizio Romano has broken his silence on the managerial saga.

According to the Italian transfer titan, Nancy is “on the verge” of becoming the next Celtic manager, with an agreement practically in place. Only the final touches remain before the contract is signed and sealed.

The Columbus Crew coach, who has built an impressive résumé in MLS since 2021, appears destined to land his first European job — and he could be through the door before the final against St Mirren in a few weeks. Celtic have been deep in talks over compensation and assembling his supporting team.

Romano reports the pursuit has turned green-light, and a big factor is Nancy’s trusted assistant, Kwame Ampadu, who already has ties with Celtic’s Head of Football Operations, Paul Tisdale.
Yoann Damet is another name being lined up, though he is also reportedly under consideration for the permanent job in Columbus.

Nancy’s backroom team is expected to feature at least one figure steeped in Celtic and Scottish football culture — with Shaun Maloney, Mark Fotheringham, or Stephen McManus among the possible contenders.
