In recent weeks, there’s been growing debate about whether Hearts can mount a serious title challenge against Celtic.
Following Celtic’s 0-0 draw with Hibs at Parkhead yesterday, Hearts moved to the top of the Scottish Premiership table thanks to their 3-0 victory over Falkirk, which extended their unbeaten start to the season.
After witnessing his Falkirk side swept aside by Derek McInnes’ men, Bairns boss John McGlynn had a pointed message for Brendan Rodgers regarding the title race.
Speaking to Sky Sports Scotland, McGlynn admitted he was disappointed with the result but praised his players for their effort:
“The lads kept going, we had a couple of moments, Don had a great strike, and Scott [Arfield] also came close. They did their best to get back into it, but Hearts were just too strong.”
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has now seen his side fail to score in four matches across league and European competition this season. When asked if Hearts are genuine contenders for the title, McGlynn responded:
“From what we’ve seen so far, yes, I’d say so. Celtic and Rangers aren’t exactly firing at the moment, while Hearts are. There’s still a long way to go, but right now, it certainly looks like there could be a title race.”
