“Fee released” – Newcastle United F.C loanee Lewis Hall delivers a strong message ahead of permanent deal with St James’ Park this summer

Lewis Hall is going to become Newcastle United’s first permanent summer signing when Chelsea’s “must-buy” option is paid off.

This summer, Lewis Hall will move from Chelsea on loan to Newcastle United permanently for £28 million.

This 19-year-old player spent the whole 2023–24 season on loan at Newcastle, which activated an obligation to buy option based on performance. The amount United will pay is more than the £8.5 million they paid Sporting CP for Hugo Viana in 2002, which was the club record for a teenager’s move.

Hall had a rough start to his loan spell, but he finished the 2023–24 season well for Newcastle by becoming a regular player in the last few weeks of the season. In a 3-2 loss to Manchester United at Old Trafford, Hall scored his first Premier League goal. He had scored there before in a 3-0 Carabao Cup win in November.

When Hall thought back on his loan spell, he wrote on social media, “A season of lessons and experiences I’ll forever be grateful for.” Thank you, Geordies, for all your help.

In 2023–24, Hall only played one of Newcastle’s first 29 Premier League games under new coach Eddie Howe. As the summer approached, Hall had become an important player at left back after a lot of hard work in the gym.

The manager of the Magpies thinks Hall will be a long-term player at St. James’ Park, even before he moves there permanently.

“I think that when any player comes to a new club, especially one that is so young, there will be a period of settling in and adjustment,” Howe said. “That goes for training as well as his life and how he feels and how comfortable he is.”

“There is always a system to follow; you don’t just arrive here…” Even Bruno [Guimaraes] didn’t come here and start playing right away; he had to get used to things, and people forget that.

“I believe he did a great job of committing to and being consistent with his work, even though I’m sure he was upset that things weren’t going his way faster.”

“But I think that’s true for every player. He did great at Old Trafford and showed a lot of maturity for someone so young. Right now, I’m really happy with his game.”
