Fee revealed: What Coventry City F.C. must pay to land Carl Rushworth from Brighton & Hove Albion F.C.

Coventry City F.C. learn hefty price to secure Carl Rushworth deal

Coventry City F.C. are edging closer to a long-awaited return to the Premier League as they push to seal the 2025/26 Championship title under Frank Lampard.

The Sky Blues have enjoyed a remarkable campaign, bouncing back from last season’s heartbreaking play-off exit to sit top for much of Lampard’s first full season in charge, following his arrival after Mark Robins departed in late 2024.

Title charge fuels big transfer plans

Despite a few bumps along the way, Coventry regained momentum with a strong winning run before a recent setback against Southampton F.C.. Still, with a healthy lead at the top and only a handful of games remaining, promotion now looks firmly within reach.

Behind the scenes, owner Doug King is already preparing for life in the top flight—and one major decision could centre around goalkeeper Carl Rushworth.

Brighton set steep valuation

Rushworth has been a standout performer since joining on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion F.C., quickly establishing himself as one of the Championship’s top goalkeepers.

However, turning that loan into a permanent move will not come cheap. Reports suggest Brighton now value the shot-stopper at around £15–20 million—a fee that would shatter Coventry’s current transfer record.

That figure represents a sharp rise from last summer, when Coventry saw a bid in the region of £5–6 million rejected, with Brighton then holding out for closer to £12 million.

Big decision looming

With Rushworth’s stock continuing to rise, Coventry now face a major financial decision. Whether they are willing to meet Brighton’s increased demands—and whether the Seagulls are prepared to sell—remains uncertain.

But one thing is clear: securing Rushworth could be one of the defining moves of Coventry’s return to the Premier League.
