Napoli was the first team Manchester City played in the Champions League. Erling Haaland and Jeremy Doku scored goals to help City win 2-0.
After Giovanni Di Lorenzo was sent off in the first half, Kevin De Bruyne told Antonio Conte about Manchester City and how they were going to play. However, he was taken off early.
Pep Guardiola’s team couldn’t get close to Napoli in the first 45 minutes.
Manchester City, on the other hand, won the very important three points, which led to five lessons being learnt about them.
We have Phil Foden back.
Phil Foden played great in Manchester City’s win over Napoli, just a few days after he starred in the Manchester Derby.
Foden’s assist for Haaland’s first goal was a beautiful lob, but he also made many other chances, linked the attack, and looked like the virtuoso he was before the game.
Foden really wanted to show those who didn’t believe in him that they were wrong this season, and based on how he played against Manchester United and Napoli, he is well on his way.
Jeremy Doku is getting well-known.
The goal scored by Jeremy Doku was amazing. He danced past Napoli’s defenders and put the ball in the back of the net.
The Belgian helped set up Foden’s first goal in his last game, which shows that he is focused on being productive this season to solidify his place as a world-class winger.
Doku, who is 23 years old, is a nightmare to deal with in the middle of the pitch, so Pep Guardiola lets him drift into the half-spaces. This job is making the 23-year-old very productive.
Doku also had a few chances that night; it looks like he’s getting much better in the closing third of the pitch.
Erling Haaland is really hot right now.
Erling Haaland scored his sixth goal in five games this season. He looks like he’s crazy.
For most of the game, the Norwegian player stood alone, but the star striker’s beautiful shot to lift the ball over Vanja Milinković-Savić showed how good he is right now.
Rodri seemed sure of himself.
Pep Guardiola took Rodri off around the hour mark to save him for Manchester City’s game against Arsenal. But until he was taken off, he was probably the best player on the field.
The midfield superstar looked much more comfortable when he had the ball than when he played against Manchester United. He broke through the lines with ease, throwing inches-perfect passes all over the pitch, and Napoli’s press couldn’t stop him.
Rodri almost scored with a rasping volley from outside the box, but the Spaniard looked more like himself when he wasn’t playing with the ball. He dominated the guests by always being in the right place at the right time.
The work of Tijjani Reijnders is still being done.
For some reason, Tijjani Reijnders wasn’t able to really make an impact on the game.
Even though the Dutchman wanted to run into the box and score goals, he wasn’t able to do so because he was so careless with the ball.
Manchester City will be hoping that Reijnders looks like the player who stunned the Premier League after a great first game against Wolves as soon as possible.
