Celtic
Following Celtic and Aberdeen’s draw, Michael Stewart questions VAR.
Neil McCann was impressed by the actions of Alistair Johnston during Celtic’s draw with Aberdeen, particularly in regard to the two VAR
decisions. On Saturday, Celtic’s 100% start to the new Premiership season was over, and there were numerous topics of discussion at Parkhead. Aberdeen’s 100% start was also halted as the two teams engaged in a physical altercation during the game, resulting in a 2-2 draw for Celtic. In addition to the goals that were scored during the match, VAR also played a role, as the champions were granted a penalty appeal and the visiting team had a third goal disallowed. The game could have easily degenerated into a dull affair, given the strong starts of these two teams. However, this was not the case. At halftime, the Bhoys had established a 2-0 lead, and Arne Engels’ magnificent strike against the woodwork could have extended their advantage. However, the second half was marked by an increase in the intensity of the drama, as Celtic committed a costly error and there were some questionable VAR decisions. Additionally, there were additional goals scored. The role of Alistair Johnston and Duk in VAR decisions as Celtic draw with Aberdeen Aberdeen’s Duk, who entered the game in the second half, was the focal point of the incident. Neil McCann also observed the role Alistair Johnston played. The Dons believed they had scored a third goal after leveling the scores at the hour mark; however, the referee and VAR determined that the ball struck Duk’s elbow and then directly entered the net.
