"I was depressed" - Former 34-year-old Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang reveals why he had to struggle with depression after leaving Arsenal

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, a former captain of Arsenal, has disclosed that since leaving Arsenal to join Barcelona, he has struggled with depression.

There is no doubt in my mind that I was unhappy. It is possible to have attitudes that are very dissimilar to the ones you experience in your everyday life. Taking myself as an example, I started drinking a lot. It turned out to be a challenging passage. Aubameyang admitted that the incident began just a short time before he was terminated from his position at Arsenal.

I believe that the situation of my parents’ health was a contributing factor in my own depression, therefore yes, it was depression. Because it had an effect on men, it was challenging. Which way is the exit? The phrase “we have to talk about it” is one that we use rather frequently; there is no guilt in saying that.

Disciplinary concerns and a tense relationship with manager Mikel Arteta were the primary factors that led to Aubameyang’s departure from Arsenal in February of 20, 2022. After returning late from an authorized trip overseas in December 2021, the Gabon captain was relieved of his captaincy, which was the culmination of a series of disciplinary violations that he had committed throughout his time at Arsenal.

Conflicts between Aubameyang and Arteta arose as a result of the disciplinary issues, as Arteta’s strict attitude was in direct opposition to the player’s behavior. It was also easier for Arsenal to part ways with Aubameyang because his on-field performance had deteriorated after he had gotten off to a strong start in his tenure with the club.

Considering that Aubameyang was one of the biggest earners at Arsenal, his departure allowed the club to reallocate resources and address other aspects of the squad, which offered the club with financial flexibility. As a result of his contract with Arsenal being canceled by mutual consent, he ultimately signed with FC Barcelona.
