Benjamin Sesko is a highly regarded striker for RB Leipzig, and former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Emmanuel Petit has spoken out about the player and his summer transfer plans.
If you ask Emmanuel Petit, Benjamin Sesko would be better off leaving Chelsea for Arsenal.
Both teams are looking to add a number nine to their rosters this summer, and with rumours circulating that Sesko’s contract contains a release clause of £55 million, it’s little wonder the Slovenian striker has been extensively linked with a transfer to London. Blues and Gunners scouts have apparently been trying to entice Sesko, a player for RB Leipzig, for weeks, and he is supposedly amenable to a transfer to either club.
Petit, a former Arsenal and Chelsea player, thinks Sesko would be foolish to turn down the Gunners. “He ought to choose Arsenal [rather than Chelsea],” the 53-year-old declared in an exclusive interview.
Their approach to the game is well-grounded. And the natural world too. Though Chelsea has made some progress in that area over the past few months, I still think it’s far superior at Arsenal.
Although a new era has begun at Chelsea, the Gunners represent stability. Since this is the case, I would advise Sesko to join Arsenal rather than Chelsea.
Sesko, who is 21 years old, played for Red Bull Salzburg for two great seasons before joining Leipzig last summer. He got off to a sluggish start to the season but finished strong, scoring eleven goals in sixteen games for the Bundesliga (including seven in a row).
Many elite center forwards are green with jealousy over the highly-rated teenager, who is 6 feet 5 inches tall and has been likened to Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Erling Haaland. Before relocating to Salzburg in 2019, he began his career in his home country of Slovenia.
After that, he spent 44 games on loan with FC Liefering in Austria’s second division, where he scored 22 goals. He scored 29 more goals in 2021 while back with Salzburg before moving on to Leipzig in 2023.
After falling short in the Premier League title chase for the second year in a row, Arsenal are in dire need of a goalscorer. Mikel Arteta is sceptical about Gabrial Jesus’ long-term potential as a center forward, so he relied on Kai Havertz up top for the majority of the season. They have been mentioned in connection with several transfers, including that involving Alexander Isak of Newcastle and Brentford striker Ivan Toney.
After their £98 million deal for Romelu Lukaku fell through, Chelsea began their search for a consistent scorer. The Blues seek a true No. 9 to replace Nicholas Jackson, who they acquired last summer. Jackson, a Senegalese forward, had a good 17 goals in all competitions.
