After Celtic turned down Atletico Madrid’s interest in the Danish international in January, there was expected to be a lot more interest in him in the summer, especially after how well he played in the Champions League.
I’m glad O’Riley wasn’t picked by Denmark to go to Euro 2024 because I’m sure he would have done great there.
Which would have brought more possible parties to the table to sign him. Celtic don’t need anything else.
Since Roma is now also interested in the smooth playmaker, it will be hard for Celtic to keep their star player.
There are a lot of teams that want to sign him, but Peter Grant has told O’Riley why he shouldn’t go to the Premier League if he does decide to leave Celtic this summer.
Jones was told to play in La Liga or Serie A.
O’Riley is being looked at by more than just Roma in Seria A. The Celtic midfielder is also being watched by Inter Milan. Grant believes that the Hoops star should not play in the Premier League unless one of England’s top six teams comes calling.
Grant told The Go Radio Football Show, “He should go to the Serie A for sure.” What if we lose him? I would ask him, “Who’s going to take him in England?”
“I’m looking at it and thinking to myself, if it’s not one of the big guns, the top six, then if I were Matt, I would go abroad.”
“I really would.” There is no getting away from the fact that Manchester United and Liverpool are two very different teams.
“If Celtic get the money they want for them, and they’ve reached a deal we didn’t know about, it’s clear that Atletico Madrid at Christmas.”
“If there’s an agreement and you’re getting a good price for him, that is. But if there isn’t, I would say that he has the skills to play in La Liga or Serie A.”
This summer, rumors about Celtic star Matt O’Riley’s future at Parkhead were bound to get a lot of attention.
Being average in the middle of the pack doesn’t matter for the Denmark international. Being able to play for teams like Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan will at least give him the chance to win more medals and get much closer to winning a European title.
I agree with Grant that if O’Riley does decide to leave Celtic this summer, the best place for him to go would be on the continent.
“That being said, I’d tell him to go play that quality.”
Brighton, West Ham United, and Everton are all said to be interested in O’Riley. With all due respect, these teams can’t match O’Riley’s clear desire to become the best in his field, even if they offer him a good salary.
