It was said that Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez already knew who he wanted to replace Robert Lewandowski before the player quit at the end of the season.
Lewandowski is one of several players that the coach is said to have thought were not needed, a choice that seems to have led to his termination.
After seeing how well Artem Dovbyk played for Girona in La Liga, Diario Sport now says that Xavi wanted to bring him to Barcelona.
For a club record fee, Dovbyk came from Dnipro-1 in August of last year and went on to compete for the Pichichi. He scored 24 La Liga goals in 36 games for Michel’s team.
But it never looked like they would make a move because Lewandowski didn’t want to leave Barcelona and Dovbyk had a 40 million euro release option.
Now that Lewandowski is back with Hansi Flick in Catalunya, it looks like he will play a big part next season.

The Polish player put up very good numbers for Bayern under Flick, and Barcelona would love to see that happen again next season.
