Mark Clattenburg has shared his opinion on the challenge between Bruno Guimaraes and Morgan Gibbs-White during Newcastle United’s 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest.
The former Premier League referee commented on the incident that occurred in the build-up to Guimaraes’ opening goal at St James’ Park. Newcastle secured only their second league win of the season, with Guimaraes striking in the 58th minute before Nick Woltemade sealed the result from the penalty spot.
Forest players and fans were frustrated by the referee’s decision not to award a foul after Guimaraes’ strong tackle on Gibbs-White, which led directly to the goal. However, ex-referee Dermot Gallagher dismissed claims of a foul, saying he couldn’t understand “what the fuss is about.”
Clattenburg echoed that sentiment, describing the clash between the two midfielders as a “natural coming together” and agreeing that the referee made the correct call to let play continue.
