Former Ibrox chief blasted over ‘disrespectful’ behaviour towards rival coach

Nathan Jones hits out at Philippe Clement over ‘lack of respect’ after Charlton Athletic defeat to Norwich City.

Charlton Athletic manager Nathan Jones has criticised former Rangers FC boss Philippe Clement, accusing him of showing a lack of respect following their Championship meeting.

Clement’s revival of Norwich City continued with a 1-0 victory, secured by an early goal from Pelle Mattsson. The result pushed the Canaries up to tenth place, a significant improvement from their earlier struggles near the relegation zone before the Belgian’s arrival.

Despite the positive momentum for Norwich, Jones was left frustrated—not just by the result, but by Clement’s conduct around the match.
The Charlton boss suggested he was unhappy with the way his opposite number behaved, feeling that certain actions or gestures crossed the line in terms of professional respect between managers.

While Clement continues to earn praise for Norwich’s turnaround, the clash appears to have sparked tension on the touchline, adding another layer of intrigue to the Championship encounter.

The situation escalated after the final whistle, leading to a brief confrontation between the two managers—something Nathan Jones addressed in his post-match press conference.
Jones played down the incident but made it clear he was unhappy with how Philippe Clement handled the post-match etiquette.

He explained that, in his view, there is a standard level of respect managers should show each other immediately after the game.
According to Jones, Clement went around acknowledging numerous individuals before eventually approaching him for a handshake, which he felt was disrespectful.

He stressed that his own approach is to prioritise greeting the opposing manager first before interacting with others.
Jones added that he confronted Clement directly about the matter, telling him he believed the actions showed a lack of professional respect.
