Former Ipswich Town star makes claim about potential Nottingham Forest managerial target Kieran McKenna

Former Ipswich Town striker and current talkSPORT pundit Alan Brazil has shared his thoughts on whether Kieran McKenna would consider taking the Nottingham Forest job following the club’s decision to part ways with Sean Dyche.

It has been another turbulent campaign for Forest, with Dyche becoming the club’s third managerial departure of the season. The East Midlands side had already moved on from Nuno Espírito Santo and Ange Postecoglou, and Dyche’s tenure proved short-lived as well.

Owner Evangelos Marinakis reportedly reached his breaking point after Forest were held to a frustrating goalless draw against bottom-of-the-table Wolverhampton Wanderers at the City Ground. Despite registering an astonishing 35 shots, Forest were unable to find a breakthrough. Dyche and his backroom staff were dismissed shortly after the final whistle.

Attention has now shifted to who will be entrusted with steering Forest clear of relegation danger. The club are fighting to secure their Premier League status while also preparing for a UEFA Europa League knockout play-off tie against Turkish side Fenerbahçe. The pressure is mounting, particularly after the midweek stalemate prevented Forest from creating breathing space between themselves and the teams around them.

Amid the uncertainty, McKenna’s name has once again surfaced. The Ipswich boss has built a strong reputation at Portman Road, guiding the Tractor Boys into promotion contention. Ipswich currently sit third in the Championship, five points behind second-placed Coventry City, keeping them firmly in the race for automatic promotion.

McKenna has previously been linked with several Premier League clubs, including Brighton, Chelsea, Tottenham, and Manchester United. With Forest now searching for a new manager, speculation has intensified about whether the Northern Irishman could be tempted away from Suffolk.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Brazil suggested McKenna might be patient rather than rush into a move. He indicated that the Ipswich manager could be keeping a close eye on developments at Manchester United, where Michael Carrick is currently serving in an interim capacity. Brazil questioned whether a switch to the City Ground would represent the best step forward for McKenna at this stage of his career.

Meanwhile, reports have claimed that Forest are already exploring alternative options, including former Wolves boss Vitor Pereira. With the club eager to stabilize their season and avoid relegation, the next managerial appointment will be critical.

For Ipswich supporters, managerial speculation surrounding McKenna has become familiar territory over the past two years. However, with promotion to the Premier League still a realistic goal, many will hope their manager remains focused on the task at hand rather than being drawn into top-flight intrigue.

As Forest weigh up their options and McKenna continues his impressive work at Ipswich, the coming weeks could prove decisive for both clubs.
