Former Newcastle United coach assumes the role as Premier League rivals terminate their manager.
As Premier League adversaries part ways with their manager, Newcastle United’s former coach assumes the role.
A former Newcastle United coach has been appointed to a new position as a result of a significant decision made by a Premier League rival on Sunday.
The Premier League’s struggling Leicester City have appointed former Newcastle United coach Ben Dawson as their interim manager following the departure of manager Steve Cooper.
The Foxes have only won two of their first 12 games of the season, and they are currently situated just two points above the Premier League relegation zone. Cooper’s tenure at the King Power Stadium concludes with this weekend’s home loss to Chelsea, which extends their streak of consecutive losses to four games.
Ironically, Cooper succeeded the individual in the away dugout on Saturday after he replaced Enzo Maresca during the summer, when the Italian was lured away by an offer from Chelsea just weeks after leading Leicester back into the top division.
Cooper’s initial initiative upon assuming leadership was to persuade Dawson, the former coach of the Magpies academy, to serve as his first-team coach at the King Power Stadium.
Dawson will now supervise the Foxes’ search for a new manager. The Geordie coach was primarily responsible for the development of the Magpies’ youth players at St James Park.
However, he also established himself as a trusted member of Rafa Benitez’s coaching staff during his tenure. Dawson took on an interim managerial position after the Spaniard’s departure in 2019 and was responsible for overseeing the situation before Steve Bruce arrived.
He will now assume a comparable position at Leicester as the Foxes board endeavors to identify Cooper’s successor. Steve Cooper, the First Team Manager of Leicester City Football Club, has resigned with immediate effect, according to a statement posted on the club’s website on Sunday afternoon.
The Club has also lost Assistant Manager Alan Tate and First Team Coach and Analyst Steve Rands. We extend our gratitude to Steve, Alan, and Steve for their contributions to the Club during their tenure and extend our best wishes for their future endeavors.
As the Club commences the process of appointing a new manager, First Team Coach Ben Dawson will supervise the training of the Men’s First Team, with the assistance of coaches Danny Alcock and Andy Hughes.
We anticipate that the process will be completed as soon as feasible. Commence the dialogue
