Frank Lampard delivers verdict after Coventry City’s 2-1 win over Leicester City maintains six-point Championship lead

Frank Lampard praised Coventry City’s character and second-half response after they came from behind to defeat M69 rivals Leicester City and preserve their six-point lead at the top of the Championship.

The Sky Blues trailed early on after Jordan James opened the scoring for Leicester, but Ellis Simms brought Coventry level before Haji Wright struck the decisive goal five minutes from time to complete the turnaround.

With results having been mixed in recent weeks, Lampard was particularly pleased with how his side reacted after a difficult opening period.

Speaking to BBC CWR, the Coventry boss said: “There was a great atmosphere from start to finish. The first half was tough because they caused us problems and got their goal.

“They’re a good team with good individuals, and their league position doesn’t reflect how they played. They made things difficult for us, but turning the game around like that is a big pleasure. It’s a great feeling for the group.

“We had to make some tactical changes off the ball, but the biggest thing was overcoming the tension from the first half.

We had to remind the players why they’re where they are — at the top of the league — because of the work they’ve done and the quality they have.

“They went out and responded brilliantly, and you could feel that in the atmosphere at the end of the game.”
