Frank Lampard, the head coach of Coventry City, is reportedly keen on signing a former Tottenham Hotspur forward when the January transfer window opens

Coventry City have reportedly shown interest in signing Troy Parrott, the Irish forward who recently made headlines with a remarkable hat-trick, as the January transfer window approaches. According to SportsBoom, Sky Blues manager Frank Lampard has long admired the former Tottenham Hotspur striker and would be open to adding him to his squad at the CBS Arena. The 23-year-old etched his name into Republic of Ireland history on Sunday, scoring a stunning treble to keep his nation’s World Cup hopes alive. Parrott’s goals secured a dramatic 3-2 comeback victory over Hungary, a result that ensures Ireland a place in the World Cup play-offs and the chance to reach the finals for the first time since 2002.

Parrott’s football journey began at his hometown club, Belvedere, before he joined Spurs’ academy. Despite his potential, he made only two Premier League appearances for Tottenham and spent time on loan at several clubs, including Millwall, Ipswich Town, MK Dons, Preston North End, and Dutch side Excelsior, in order to gain valuable first-team experience. This season, he has already netted six goals in seven league appearances, and reports indicate that Coventry have been closely monitoring his development and goal-scoring prowess for some time.

Where the report becomes questionable is in suggesting that Parrott could be seen as a “natural successor” to current Championship top scorer Brandon Thomas-Asante.

Thomas-Asante has reportedly attracted attention from Premier League side Leeds United, but Lampard has emphasized his intention to strengthen rather than weaken his squad in January. Letting go of the in-form Thomas-Asante at a crucial stage of the season would be a risky move, especially as the Sky Blues sit atop the Championship and are pushing for automatic promotion.

Parrott’s recent success in the Netherlands also highlights his rising stock. During his time at Excelsior, he scored ten goals in 25 league appearances, a performance that prompted Dutch rivals AZ Alkmaar to sign him for £6.7 million.
He immediately made an impact at AZ, scoring 14 goals in just 20 games in his debut season, showcasing his consistency and goal-scoring ability at a higher level.
