In early June, United submitted an initial offer for Mbeumo, which was estimated to be worth £55 million. However, the offer was promptly rejected. They subsequently submitted an enhanced offer that exceeded £60 million just over a fortnight ago.
Brentford appeared to be satisfied with the second proposal and would permit United to finalize the transaction for the attacker. Nonetheless, negotiations are still ongoing, as there are allegations that the Bees are refusing to accept a settlement of approximately £70 million.
United initiated the window with a bang last month, declaring that they had reached an agreement with Wolves to sign Matheus Cunha for £62.5m just 14 hours after it had opened on June 1. Nevertheless, Cunha’s contract included a release clause that facilitated the assignment.
United have been unable to rely on a release clause in their attempts to sign Mbeumo, resulting in ongoing discussions that have lasted for more than a month. The forward and the Reds are both equally enthusiastic about concluding a transaction.
Nevertheless, United is at risk of squandering time and effort as they endeavor to fortify other areas this summer, given the extended period of time and effort required to achieve a breakthrough with Brentford.
This summer, United must urgently recruit new players to the squad in order to provide head coach Ruben Amorim with the best possible opportunity to advance the club in the upcoming campaign, following the disappointing 2024/25 campaign. In addition to Mbeumo, they intend to recruit a goalkeeper, a midfielder, and a striker.
Revenue streams will be diminished as a result of the absence of European football in 2025/26, necessitating that United employ astute strategies. Simultaneously, they are compelled to balance the recruitment of athletes of the appropriate caliber with the avoidance of overpaying.
