Joao Cancelo joined Barcelona in the summer to help out at right back. He started the season as a strong force on the wing.

Because Alejandro Balde was hurt, he had to start playing left back, and that’s where he’s stayed all season.

The 29-year-old has been on loan to the Catalans and has scored two goals and set up three others in 26 league games. He also makes an average of 1.2 key passes per game.

The board is now working on either extending his loan or making his deal permanent because of how well he has played for Blaugrana.

Still, nothing is set in stone yet.

People don’t like Cancelo’s choice.
A few weeks ago, the Barcelona star was asked by FIFPRO to name his ideal football team of five players. This was the pick that got the most attention from Cancelo’s fans.

The Portuguese fullback chose Ederson from Manchester City as the goalkeeper because he is good at playing the ball. Then, he picked his fellow countryman Ruben Dias to play defense on his dream team, saying that his leadership was unmatched.

Cancelo chose his countryman Bernardo Silva and the legendary Ronaldinho from Barcelona to play in the middle of the field. He said the first one works very hard and is very creative, and he called the second one his favorite player of all time.

The player for Barcelona’s choice to play Cristiano Ronaldo instead of Lionel Messi in the final third, however, made waves on the internet.

In his defense, he did say that he picked the former Real Madrid star because he is a national hero and an inspiration to many people.

Under stress
A lot of people have said good things about Cancelo’s time at Barcelona, but his play against PSG and Real Madrid this week has caused a lot of pressure on the back.

The loan star played awfully against Luis Enrique’s team. He even gave away a silly penalty by tackling someone without a reason after Barcelona was down to ten men.

Achraf Hakimi was already having a tough game, but Lucas Vazquez ran him down on the wing in El Clasico, giving Real Madrid a win that was almost impossible to miss.

So, over the next few weeks, everyone will be watching Cancelo to see how he gets back to playing his best after his slump. After all, it’s still not certain that he’ll stay with the club next season.
