Real Madrid rotated their roster in preparation for the second leg of their Champions League quarterfinal match against Manchester City. However, this resulted in the absence of a vital player due to a ‘knock’.

While Real Madrid made a number of substitutions for their La Liga victory over Mallorca this weekend, they had Manchester City in mind when they did so. However, one of the selections that was forced upon them presents Carlo Ancelotti with an injury concern in advance of their trip to the Etihad Stadium.

Ancelotti has selected a traveling team consisting of 22 players to face City in Manchester on Wednesday. However, the squad includes Aurelien Tchouameni, a center back who is now suspended and will travel to England but will not be allowed to participate in the game.

There is a significant risk of injury for Real Madrid, since the club's manager has picked 22 players to compete against Manchester City

During the match on Saturday, Ancelotti substituted Jude Bellingham and Luka Modric with teammates Eduardo Camavinga, Dani Carvajal, Toni Kroos, Vinicius Jr., and Rodrygo. The result was a 1-0 victory for Real Madrid, which maintained their position as the top team in La Liga rankings.

Ancelotti claimed that his adjustments were made for reasons related to fitness, although he did disclose that Rodrygo’s absence was due to a ‘knock’ because of an injury. The Brazilian player scored during the first leg of the Champions League match at the Bernabeu, but he was replaced by Brahim Diaz, a former player for City, at the 71st minute of the match one week ago.

In my opinion, we did a good job. Due to a certain physical component, I did not give myself any rest. They were all doing well. Ancelotti reported over the weekend that the only player who got a knock was Rodrygo.

Due to the fact that Rodrygo did not participate in the match against Mallorca, it is now possible that he will not be able to play in the return leg for City. Ancelotti will provide an update on the forward’s fitness when he addresses the media in Manchester on Tuesday evening. As a result of Rodrygo’s inclusion in the squad that was announced on Monday, the visitors have high hopes that he will be able to compete.

In response to a question about who would replace Tchouameni, Ancelotti did not provide any information when he was questioned about his difficulty with the center back position. He had earlier claimed that the option would be between Nacho and Militao. On the other hand, he did declare in jest that Antonio Rudiger will unquestionably start at the Etihad Stadium, with Militao only coming on from the bench in the 90th minute of the match against Mallorca.

In the second half, I had the intention of giving him additional playing time, but the match was already in progress. He was brought in at the last end in order to improve the aerial game, according to Ancelotti. I’m going to make a note of this one. This is the second leg that Rudiger is going to play in.

This is a really significant victory that gets us one step closer to winning the championship. We are currently on a winning streak, and now let’s be thinking about Wednesday. We still have time to get better.”

Real Madrid’s traveling squad for their match against Manchester City is as follows: Lunin, Arrizabalaga, Fran; Carvajal, Militao, Nacho, Vazquez, Garcia, Rudiger, Mendy; Bellingham, Kroos, Modric, Manavinga, Valverde, Tchouameni*, Cebbalos, Gular; Vinicius, Rodrygo, Joselu, Brahim Diaz; and Brahim Diaz.
