Gary Lineker has revealed who he is backing to win the Scottish Premiership following Rangers’ clash with Hearts, as Celtic remain in a pivotal position in the title race

Gary Lineker has been weighing up the Scottish Premiership title battle between Hearts, Rangers and Celtic — and admits he found himself hoping Rangers would slip up on Sunday.

The former England striker switched off Arsenal’s comfortable FA Cup win over Wigan to tune into Rangers’ dramatic 4-2 victory against Hearts.

The result leaves Rangers just two points behind the leaders, while Celtic’s late comeback win at Kilmarnock moved them to within three of top spot.

Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast alongside Micah Richards and Alan Shearer, Lineker said the title race is shaping up brilliantly. He noted Celtic’s game in hand away to Aberdeen in March could prove decisive.

Despite enjoying the drama, Lineker admitted he would like to see Hearts go all the way, arguing Scottish football would benefit from a champion outside the traditional Old Firm.

The last non-Rangers or Celtic winner was Alex Ferguson’s Aberdeen side in the 1980s — a feat Lineker described as extraordinary if repeated.
