Newcastle United transfer news: Reports from Germany suggest that defender Fabian Schär could be leaving St James’ Park.
The former Swiss international, who is in the final year of his Newcastle contract, is reportedly attracting interest from several Bundesliga clubs. Under FIFA rules, players with six months or less remaining on their contract can negotiate pre-contract agreements with foreign clubs.
Schär, who signed a one-year extension last season, fits this criterion and could agree to join a club outside England in January, with any move taking effect in the summer.
According to Sky Sports Germany, discussions are already underway between Schär’s representatives and interested Bundesliga sides, though the report does not specify which clubs are involved.
Schär is no stranger to German football, having spent two seasons at Hoffenheim before a stint in Spain with Deportivo La Coruña, and then moving to Newcastle in 2018.
