Gordon reacts to Newcastle’s PIF investment after Isak departs for £130m

Anthony Gordon Eyes More at Newcastle as He Recovers from Injury Setback

Anthony Gordon has admitted he is eager to achieve more at Newcastle United as he works to bounce back from an injury setback.

The 24-year-old winger joined the Magpies from Everton in January 2023 for a reported £45 million and has since contributed 26 goals in 119 appearances. Gordon has enjoyed mixed form this season — he has scored four goals and provided an assist in four Champions League matches, yet he has failed to make a domestic Premier League goal contribution. In fact, he hasn’t scored or assisted in the league since January.

Meanwhile, Newcastle United will feel the impact of recent Carabao Cup format changes, which have been introduced to accommodate restructured European competitions. Clubs involved in Europe will now play eight group-stage matches, two more than the previous system, before progressing to the knockout rounds.

As per tradition, teams competing in Europe will still enter the Carabao Cup at the third round stage. However, these changes could have wider implications for non-European clubs like Newcastle. With Champions League and Europa League sides no longer able to face each other in the early rounds, there’s a higher likelihood that clubs not in Europe could be drawn against one of the top six teams — a potential challenge for the Magpies as they seek silverware domestically.

For Gordon, returning to full fitness and finding his Premier League form will be crucial as Newcastle look to navigate these changes and make an impact in domestic competitions while rebuilding momentum in the league.
