Green Brigade publish statement on Monday.

The Green Brigade have issued a statement after Celtic’s 4-0 victory over Dundee United, responding to protests that unfolded inside Celtic Park on Saturday.

Their comments followed the display of banners aimed at senior club figures during the match, with the group seeking to explain the purpose behind the messages. Despite the ongoing ban, supporter messaging was visible throughout the stadium, including in areas not usually linked with organised displays. The positioning was intentional and designed to ensure the protest was noticed.

The timing was significant, coming shortly after interim chairman Brian Wilson publicly called for unity within the club. That appeal was met with scepticism by many supporters, who believe unresolved issues undermine such messaging. The Green Brigade’s ban has now lasted several months without a clear outcome, and Saturday’s actions indicated growing frustration.

In their statement, the group made clear the banners were planned and not a spontaneous reaction. By naming both Wilson and chief executive Michael Nicholson, the Green Brigade underlined their belief that calls for togetherness ring hollow while sanctions remain in place.

Although the tone of the statement was measured, it firmly framed the protest as a direct response to boardroom comments. While the win provided a positive result on the pitch, it did little to ease the broader tensions off it.

The dispute continues to centre on the ban, which the club says is linked to serious concerns involving individuals. Supporters argue that collective punishment is unjust, and with dialogue stalled, protest has increasingly become the preferred means of communication.
