“happy retirement” 25-year-old Rangers F.C. midfielder Rabbi Matondo Issues new heartfelt statement as retirement announced

As Rangers gear up for their Europa League clash with Austrian outfit Sturm Graz, they’ll once again be without Rabbi Matondo.

Thursday presents a chance for the Ibrox side to secure back-to-back victories for the first time this season, though they may find it easier away from home given the tense atmosphere that has built up at Ibrox.

Matondo has been sidelined since the start of the campaign, suffering repeated setbacks in his recovery. With the winger still unavailable, Russell Martin must decide whether to hand a start to Djiedi Gassama or youngster Mikey Moore on October 2.

Away from the pitch, Matondo has taken to social media to react to emotional news, posting a message to congratulate his former Schalke 04 teammate Jeffrey Bruma on his retirement.

Matondo, who joined Rangers from Schalke in 2022 on a four-year deal, has endured a stop-start career in Glasgow. He’s made 67 appearances, spent part of last season on loan at Hannover 96, and continues to battle recurring hamstring problems. His high wages and fitness struggles have left fans questioning his long-term future at the club.

Bruma, like Matondo, saw his career hampered by injuries despite spells at Chelsea and PSV. For Matondo, the big question remains whether he can finally overcome his setbacks and re-establish himself in Martin’s plans at Ibrox.
