Chris Sutton has taken aim at Neil Lennon and Kris Boyd after the trio clashed live on Sky Sports over Celtic’s transfer business ahead of their defeat to Hearts.
Sutton, a former Celtic striker, argued that the team’s poor form stems from a disastrous summer recruitment drive, while Boyd blamed Brendan Rodgers’ tactics and Lennon insisted that not all of the club’s signings were bad.
Following Hearts’ victory over Celtic at Tynecastle, Sutton doubled down on his position—praising Derek McInnes’ side while taking a swipe at Lennon and Boyd for ganging up on him during the on-air debate.
On X, Sutton wrote:
“Hearts deserved it. Streetwise, organised, and with better attacking players than Celtic. This Celtic team are a shambles.
How many Celtic players would get into the Hearts team right now? Hearts will never have a better chance to win the league… Celtic weren’t even a Honda Civic today.”
Despite dominating possession, Celtic once again failed to make it count—something Sutton continues to attribute to poor recruitment.
Reflecting on his Sky Sports exchange, Sutton later mocked his co-pundits, saying:
“Extraordinary from the Chuckle brothers this… recruitment is the main reason Celtic have been sluggish and why there’s so much unrest right now.”
With Celtic now eight points behind Hearts, Rodgers must work with his current squad until the transfer window reopens. The manager, who declined to discuss signings after the defeat, faces a crucial run of fixtures against Falkirk, Rangers, and FC Midtjylland.
