Reports say that Newcastle United is getting close to signing Crystal Palace back Marc Guehi.
It’s “close” that Newcastle United will sign Guehi from Crystal Palace. Talks between the two clubs went well over the weekend. According to The Telegraph, more and more people think that a deal could be made before the end of the weekend.
Newcastle United just got back from a pre-season trip to Japan. They will play back-to-back games at St. James’ Park on Friday night and Saturday against Girona. After that, they will play in the Sela Cup at Stade Brestois. The next week, Eddie Howe’s team plays Southampton in the first game of the Premier League season. They were hoping that Guehi would be able to play in that game.
Late last week, St. James’ Park showed interest in the England player. Over the weekend, it was said that Newcastle had been given the “green light” to try to sign the defender. It’s not likely that Guehi and Newcastle’s personal issues will get in the way of their move.
A story from the Telegraph says that talks about a transfer have not ended yet, but a deal could be made before the weekend. In other news, Guehi is set to return to training at Palace this week after having extra time off to play in Euro 2024 this summer.
The 24-year-old played well for Palace last season and became an important part of Gareth Southgate’s team this summer. He played in all but one of England’s games in Germany and was one of their best players on their way to the final.
