English vs. Serbia: On Sunday night, the Three Lions will play their first Euro 2024 game against Serbia.
Wayne Rooney, former player for Manchester United and England, thinks Anthony Gordon should start against Serbia on Sunday night in Gelsenkirchen when England’s Euro 2024 campaign starts. Gordon scored eleven goals and set up ten others in the Premier League last season, his first full season at St. James’ Park. He was one of the most creative and precise players in the league.
Gareth Southgate put Gordon in his plans during the last international break because of how well he was playing. The former Everton player did well enough to be picked for Southgate’s 26-man team for the tournament.
For their first game against Serbia on Sunday, Rooney told Channel 4 that Southgate should include Gordon in the squad: “I think since his move from Everton to Newcastle, I obviously did the same thing when I moved to Manchester United and got a bit of stick from the Everton fans with that move, but he’s settled really well at Newcastle and he’s brought a great creativity.”
“He’s brave with the ball, works hard, and I think he makes the team very balanced.” “He should be on the left, in my opinion.”
When it comes to goals scored by guys, Rooney is second only to Harry Kane on the England record list. He first played for England in Euro 2004, and went on to play in five more international tournaments.
He was an inspiration to a generation of young footballers, including Gordon, who called Rooney his “idol” and said, “I’ve said plenty of times that he was my idol growing up; I loved the way he played.” Gordon said yes.
